New Update: Suspected Vandalism Causes Internet Outage For Thousands In Fairfield County

Approximately 8,000 Optimum customers were left without internet because of "extensive damage" likely caused by a vandal, the company said. 

The company announced that some Fairfield County customers were without internet on Friday, March 24 due to a fiber cut by suspected vandalism. Service was estimated to be interrupted into Saturday, March 25, the company said. 

Optimum teams restored power to 99% of customers by around 8 p.m. on Friday, March 24, according to company spokesperson Janet Meahan.

"We thank our crews for their hard work repairing the damage and our customers for their patience as we worked to restore service," Meahan said.
